1954  

Art (in seat), Walter (checking engine), and Dale Arfons, of Akron, Ohio. 1450 hp P-51 Allison engine. 132 mph top speed.. Top eliminator at 1954 World Series of Drag Racing, Lawrenceville, Illinois. Art said, "I had picked up this Allison airplane motor at a sale," Art said. "I bought it for $35. I put some wheels on it and started going."


Green Monster No. 4

1955-56

Art and Walt Arfons, of Akron, Ohio, Ranger 6-cylinder aircraft engine. Nicknamed Green Monster Jr. In photo, Bob Tennant is at wheel in staging lanes. 118 mph top speed.


Green Monster No. 5

1955-57

Walt and Art Arfons, of Akron, Ohio, Air-cooled 1000-hp Ranger aircraft engine, fuel injected, mounted upside down and backwards. Later they swapped out the Ranger engine and installed a water-cooled Allison V12 aircraft engine. Driven by Fred Lewis. 158 mph top speed. This may be the dragster that Charlie Hall of Tucson bought and raced a few times in 1960. 180 mph top speed. Art and Walt Arfons, of Akron, Ohio. Generally driven by Art Arfons. This car crashed, rolling fourteen times, nearly costing Art Arfons his life. 167 mph top speed.


Antelope Racing Supply Special
